Southend Events Programme 2010

Here is a programme of some of the entertainment & events to be held in Southend throughout the summer of 2010.

Southend Air Show - Southend Seafront

2010 will see the 25th Air Show at Southend-on-Sea, running on Sat 30th and Sun 31st of May.

The two day Southend Festival of the Air is a true highlight of Southend’s events programme. Staged along almost 2 miles of the Southend seafront, over 40 aircraft displays will take place, with a wonderful mix of planes old and new.

Back on ground, Southend will host  the RAF, Army, Navy and Royal Marine Town Shows. There will be rides, simulators, giant inflatable’s and much more to keep everyone on the go for the full two days.

BBC Essex will again be bringing you Radio Air show on 1530MW, as well as providing the live commentary along the seafront, and Southend Radio will be providing live entertainment both days with music Roadshows.

Gear Up for Fashion - Southend Pier Hill. Sat 12th June

For this event, South Essex College students join up with the Cycle Southend project and The Royals Shopping Centre, to produce a cycle friendly fashion show. Cycling is seeing a resurgence and you can learn how to become eco-friendly fashionista, make your mark on the Art Wall and see the cycle stunt display team in action.

Southend Salutes - Armed Forces Weekend at Chalkwell Park. Sat June 26th.

Southend’s Chalkwell Park will play host to a military fair on the last Saturday in June. There will be explosive WWII re-enactments and Southend Radio will bring a  Roadshow, featuring local talent and tribute acts. To add to the WWII era theme, there will also be 40's style entertainment. The day will also see a Survival of the Fittest' competition, climbing walls and live music to make this a great fun day out for the whole family.

Leigh Folk Festival – Friday 25th – Sun 27th June

The Leigh Folk Festival, in Leigh-on-Sea, a 5 minute drive from Southend, is one of the largest free music, song and dance festivals in the County. There will be more than 500 performers including Folk, Cajun, Country & Western, Blues, Jive, Flamenco and Appalachian. In addition to the performances, the Leigh Folk Festival features storytelling, poetry and various workshops where you can get involved in the Festival your self.

Archaeology Festival - Southend Central Museum and Planetarium.

Tues 27th – Sat 31st July

This year’s Southend Archaeology Festival will have a Tudor theme. There will be lots of interesting craft activities for the children and an opportunity for you to see how you enjoy becoming an archaeologist for a few days. The Tudors had very strong links to Essex and there will be displays detailing life in Tudor times in Southend. You can enjoy face painting, archaeological puzzles and demonstrations by an ancient moneyer, who will have stamped coins to give away!

Southend Carnival at Southend Seafront. Fri 13th – Sat 21st Aug.

Southend Carnival is a huge and exciting programme of entertainment for all the family. Carnival events throughout the week include Dog Show,  Children’s competition and the great Southend Carnival Fair. The final evening of the event is the illuminated carnival procession on Southend seafront, with the massive Fireworks Spectacular finale – not to be missed!

Music Scene in Southend
