Southend PierSouthend Pier is the longest pleasure pier in the world 1.33 miles long. Built in 1830, Southend Pier has weathered the test of time, going though fires, numerous boat crashes and two World Wars. Entrance to Southend Pier is from The Royals end of Southend High Street. The pier is ideal for a good brisk walk. Alternatively, trains leave the shore end every hour and half hour. At the cafe at the end of Southend Pier you can refresh yourself for your return back to shore . ! Southend Pier offers special trips though out the year..., such as ghost trains, Santa on the pier, and in the summer Tall ships are moored at the end of the pier. The pier is lit up at night and you can enjoy views of the pier and beach from the Hotel. The Kursaal, SouthendThe Kuraal, on Eastern Esplanade Southend, was once the largest pleasure park in the south of England. In its hey day in the 50’s and 60’s, thousands of day tippers came to visit Southend and would enjoy the many attractions of the Kursaal. Now you can enjoy Bowling, and other activities and light refreshments. The Kursaal is open all year round, closed Christmas Day. Adventure Island, SouthendAdventure Island is the UK’s No 1 Free Admission Fun Park. It is open weekends and school holidays during the winter. In summer opening times are11 am till 10 pm .Half price wristbands are available from 6pm onwards. Adventure Island has adventure rides to suit all ages, whether very young or older. Rage is the biggest and the best roller coaster and for the very brave there is the never to be forgotten Haunted Manson. As well as modern rides Adventure Island retains some attractions from days gone by – such as Helter Skelter and the Crooked House. The café offers ice creams and candy floss, so all the fun of the fair is on your doorstep, just over the road from the Gleneagles Hotel.
